Universities in Liverpool

There are 4 main universities in Liverpool to choose from: The University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool Hope University and the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, making it a city that is very welcoming of students.

The University of Liverpool: Established in 1881, the University of Liverpool claims to be the original ‘Red Brick’ university, with the term having been coined due to the appearance of it’s Victoria building. The University of Liverpool is a top 200 university in the world that welcomes 35,000 students, with around 8,000 of those being international students.

Liverpool John Moores University: Formerly Liverpool Polytechnic, Liverpool John Moores University (or LJMU) changed its name in 1992 but can trace its history back to 1823. LJMU is a public research university with over 200 courses that welcomes over 24,000 students each year.

Liverpool Hope University: Hope University has over 175 years of history and was recently ranked in the UK’s top 20 universities for teaching excellence. The university aims to combine teaching excellence with top quality research. They welcome around little over 5,000 students.

Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts: A specialist performing arts university, LIPA has the Beatles’ own Paul McCartney as a patron who claims it’s one of the best performing arts schools in the world. The university aims to create an environment to be creative, experiment and succeed.
