The Best Vegan Eateries in Liverpool
If you’ve got your sights set on studying in Liverpool in the 2021/22 academic year, here at true student we’ve got you covered with the best vegan-friendly eateries to enjoy. It doesn’t matter if you’re a dedicated vegan, just starting out with the lifestyle or just want to see if vegan food really can live up to your standard diet, we’ve got you covered with everything from takeaways and coffee shops to sit down restaurants.
Down the Hatch
Whilst we know many people associate vegan food with salads and healthy meals, there’s nothing to say you can’t enjoy a pig-out and enjoy a treat. Down the Hatch, located on Duke Street, is a prime example of this, offering up vegan junk food seven days a week. Whether it’s to cure the hangover or for a treat after a busy day studying, Down the Hatch has you covered. Indulge in a range of dishes from loaded fries, dirty burgers, a range of topped mac dishes, and even milkshakes.
The Down the Hatch menu is available as a takeaway or to eat in and is located just a mere 9-minute walk from true Liverpool.
Wootan Scran
There’s a common misconception that if you’re eating vegan there’s very little in the way of takeaway options. But Wootan Scran on Lark Lane in Liverpool not only has one of the greatest takeaway names we’ve ever heard, but it is also 100% vegan. The food at Wootan Scran covers everything from kebabs, burgers and English chippy specials such as battered sausages and cheesy chips, but also offers up a full salt and pepper range as well as Chinese inspired starters.
The Wootan Scran menu is available for delivery, or alternatively is just an 11-minute walk from your accommodation with true Liverpool.
The Caledonia
The Caledonia is the first completely vegan pub to open in Liverpool, taking all of your pub grub favourites and making them completely vegan. No matter your fancy, The Caledonia has you covered with everything from burgers and all-day breakfasts, to chilli and a vegan twist on mac and cheese.
Located in the Georgian Quarter, at The Caledonia you can also find regular small events in the top function room, as well as a community bookshelf where the books are donated by the public and can be borrowed by everyone.
The Caledonia is a 25-minute walk from true Liverpool accommodation so makes a great spot to enjoy a midweek tea or weekend lunch alike.
Potts Coffee
Claiming to be Liverpool city centre’s first fully plant-based coffee shop, Potts Coffee is the perfect place to grab a hot drink on the way to class, or even stop for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Everyone knows either a cup of coffee or a good brew can make any situation a little bit better, so whether it’s the early morning lecture or motivation for the morning after the night before, Potts Coffee is a great place to start.
What’s more, Potts Coffee is dedicated to reducing its environmental impact, not just through its plant-based food and drinks, but also by using reusable coffee cups, reclaimed furniture and a specialist recycling company to ensure no waste ends up in a landfill. What could be better than enjoying a great tasting coffee and brunch whilst knowing you’re having minimal impact on the environment? Potts Coffee is located on Slater Street, a 17-minute walk from true Liverpool.
Sanskruti
At Sanskruti you can enjoy the traditional spices, aromas and flavours of native Indian food, all carefully prepared in house. However, Sanskruti is a completely vegetarian and vegan Indian restaurant, so provides you with modern twists of the traditional dishes. The full Sanskruit menu is available to browse online where you can discover the extensive offering covering everything from starters and street food dishes, to daal, Punjabis and Gujaratis.
